LifeStyl
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how LIFESTYL DEALS AND DISCOUNTS INCORPORATED (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use the LifeStyl mobile application and related services (the “App”).
We are based in Ontario, Canada, and we handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”), Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law. This Policy describes your choices and how to reach us with any questions or concerns.
“Personal information” means information about an identifiable individual. If you have questions about this Policy or our privacy practices, contact us at operations@lifestyl.app
1. Accountability
We are responsible for the personal information under our control. We have designated an individual who is accountable for our compliance with this Policy and with PIPEDA. You can reach our privacy contact at operations@lifestyl.app. Point of Contact is stated in Section 11 of this document.
2. Personal Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account information | Name, email address, phone number, profile photo (if you add one), and any details you provide when creating an account. |
| Usage & analytics data | How you interact with the App, device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic data. |
| Location data | Precise GPS location only accessed while using the application or as specified by the user. It is used on your device to show nearby deals and distances; we do not store your GPS location on our servers. |
| Deal and loyalty activity | Deals you save and redeem, the restaurant and time of each redemption, the bill amount and savings recorded at the restaurant, and your loyalty stamps and rewards. |
| Invitations | The email address of a friend you invite, so we can send them your invitation. If you leave your email on a restaurant’s LifeStyl page (join.lifestyl.app), we keep it so you can sign up with it. |
| Device and notification data | A push notification token, if you allow notifications. |
| Sign-in information | If you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google: your name, your email address (which may be a private relay address from Apple), and an account identifier from Apple or Google. |
| Technical and log data | Your IP address, device and browser type, app version, and the time of requests, recorded by our servers and hosting providers; and a random identifier our analytics provider assigns to your device. |
| Records of your choices | The version of our Terms of Service and this Policy you accepted and when, and whether you have unsubscribed from our emails. |
3. Why We Collect It
We identify the purposes for which we collect personal information at or before the time of collection. We use your personal information to:
- create and manage your account and provide the App to you;
- maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the App, including through usage analytics;
- provide location-based features where you have enabled them;
- communicate with you about the App, including service updates and, where you have agreed, marketing;
- send invitations and other emails that you, or a friend on your behalf, asked us to send, and honour unsubscribe requests;
- detect and prevent fraud and abuse, such as fake referrals or redemptions, and keep the App secure;
- keep records of your acceptance of our Terms of Service and this Policy; and
- meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Consent
We obtain your consent to collect, use, and disclose your personal information, except where the law permits or requires otherwise. The form of consent may vary depending on the sensitivity of the information.
For sensitive information, such as precise location data, we seek your express consent, which you may give or decline (for example, through your device permission settings). For other information, your consent may be implied by your use of the App after being informed of our purposes.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may limit or prevent our ability to provide the App. To withdraw consent, contact us using the details in Section 11.
Email. We send commercial email, such as invitations, only where Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation allows it: with your consent, or once on behalf of a friend who invited you, naming them. Every such email identifies us and includes an unsubscribe link, and we honour unsubscribe requests promptly. Emails you ask for, such as sign-in and verification codes, are sent regardless.
Users aged 16 and 17. We write this Policy and our permission requests to be clear to younger users. A parent or guardian may contact us about a young person’s information.
5. Limiting Collection
We limit the personal information we collect to what is necessary for the purposes we have identified, and we collect it by fair and lawful means.
6. Use, Disclosure, and Retention
We use and disclose your personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, except with your consent or as required or permitted by law. We do not sell your personal information.
We may disclose your personal information to:
- Service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as:
- Supabase — hosting, database and storage
- Resend — sending invitation and verification emails
- PostHog — usage analytics; identified only by an internal account ID, never your name, email or phone number
- Apple and Google — Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google (if you use them), and maps (Apple Maps on iPhone, Google Maps on Android)
- Expo — delivering push notifications
- Participating restaurants, when you redeem a deal or collect a loyalty stamp there: they see the deal, the bill amount and savings for that visit, but not your name or contact details;
- Our business clients where you access the App through one of them, in which case we handle your information on their behalf;
- Legal and successor parties where required by law, or in connection with a sale, merger, or reorganization of our business.
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the identified purposes or to meet legal requirements. For example, we keep account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards, and records we need for tax and accounting for as long as those rules require. Technical and log data is kept by our hosting providers for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. When personal information is no longer needed, we securely destroy, erase, or anonymize it.
7. Service Providers Outside Canada
Some of our service providers may store or process personal information outside of Canada, including in the United States. While personal information is in another country, it may be subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access requests by government authorities. We use contractual and other measures to require our service providers to protect personal information to a standard comparable to that required under PIPEDA.
8. Accuracy and Safeguards
We take reasonable steps to keep personal information accurate, complete, and up to date for the purposes for which it is used. You can help by keeping your account information current.
We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and monitoring. Your sign-in session is stored on your device and is not included in device backups. If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law, and keep records of breaches as required.
9. Your Access and Correction Rights
On request, we will tell you what personal information we hold about you, how it is used, and to whom it has been disclosed, and we will give you access to it, subject to limited exceptions permitted by law. You may also ask us to correct information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
To make an access or correction request, contact us at operations@lifestyl.app. We will respond within the time required by PIPEDA (generally within 30 days). There is normally no cost, and we will tell you in advance if any minimal cost applies.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time in the App under Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, saved deals, redemption history, and loyalty cards and stamps. We keep a record that your email address was invited, so that you can sign up again with it; contact us at operations@lifestyl.app to have that removed as well. We may keep limited records where the law requires it.
10. Age Restriction
Our App is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 16, we will delete it as soon as reasonably possible.
